Last friday I was driving home from Ghent from the weekly Krimson Krew meeting, Android Premium Navigation suddenly popped a question I couldn't escape. I was doing about 135 km/h, which is just 5 above the speed limits on some parts of the route, when it asked me to verify and update my license, read the terms of agreement, fill in my credit card credentials in order to continue navigating. The fact I had to deal with this 'nagging popup' while driving affirmed my opinion on the agreeing to online Terms of Use's:
Clicking "yes" on *any* terms of use to 99% of the people means: "Don't show me this again", nothing more. I am distancing myself from any online agreement and won't recognize it as such. As do most people.
Who actually reads the intentionally misty, deviously booby trapped pieces of crap, that are presented in a way you have to click them in order to 'get to your goods'. Noone does. The "I agree" has devaluated to a mere "Don't show me this again in the future" without taking much notice.
Then there's the plain out ordacity from the likes of Facebook, Apple and everyone else to change or alter the terms, after you agreed to them, sometimes just days later. It reminds me of Darth Vader who was "altering the deal" with Lando Calrissian over the release the frozen in carbonite Han Solo, of course to his benefit, not Han's.
I will see through Route66's and Android's usability fail of disrupting my use of their product while driving, with a rotated 'popup' (my Android is attached to my windscreen in landscape mode). I really should not be operating this scenario while driving. That happened in actuality was that exactly 30 days of the Route66 powered "Premium Navigation" had passed. As satnav software contains disclaimers about operating-while-driving (rightly so, while dosed properly), I would suspect HTC to embed a detection routine 'sensing' to hold off based on my current speed. Little software is perfect.
I have read recent analysis on various terms of use that will genuinely put you off your rockers, and it included Facebook and Twitter. Some do try to hold a sense of moral value, but Facebook is actually pirating your privacy. FB takes complete ownership over the pictures you upload to FB, sells them to 3rd parties but take no liability of your picture ends up on a viagra add in South-East Asia or winds up on a Most Wanted list somewhere down below the equator. The people refraining from social networks over privacy issues understand the risks well and are wise to do so. Unfortunately almost every online product or services requires you to 'agree' with something.
To me, as for most people, the "agree" checkbox has become equivalent to "Close this popup. Don't show me again in the future". I wonder what will happen when some serious malice will lead to an all out lawsuit based on vague, misleading terms, accepting by some poor sucker among us.
wow! veru nice! loved it!
A Christmas tree is a wonderful symbol of the holiday season. Many individuals will stomp through the Christmas tree farm in search of that special tree but very few know how to properly dig it up. While digging it up incorrectly will not affect its appearance during the holiday season it can affect its ability to survive in the ground.

If there was one thing Office 2010 that I would say needs improvement Microsoft Office 2007 is the ability to connect to exchange and POP/IMAP at the same time in Microsoft Outlook 2010 the same profile. It's something I've been Office 2007 wanting since the very first version of Outlook/Exchange. Overall there are few competitors to office 2007 Professional this suite. Open Office is out there, but doesn't Microsoft Office 2010 include a mail Microsoft Office client - so you have office 2007 download to find something else free like products from Mozilla. But Open Office does shine in lightweight presentation creation, word Office 2010 professional processing, and spreadsheet management. It's not as Microsoft Office 2010 Professional polished, but works. I haven't heard Outlook 2010 anything from Word Perfect in ages - but 10 years ago it was great.
